Meeting Minutes – Hanson Town Hall
May 13, 2014

Members Present:        Stephen Amico, James Egan and David Soper
Members Absent: Richard Flynn and Donald Howard
Others Present: Town Administrator  Ronald San Angelo and Executive Assistant Meredith Marini

7:30 p.m.   Chairman Egan called the meeting to order, led the Pledge Allegiance. Chairman Egan read the announcements, and upcoming meeting schedule

II      TOWN ADMINISTRATOR’S REPORT     
        Mr. San Angelo announced a retirement party for Firefighter Wayne Carroll will be held on Friday, June 13th at the Whitman VFW.  He thanked Firefighter Carroll for his service.

Facilities management report: Mr. San Angelo informed the Board that the Facilities Management Report which was conducted through the Town Accountant’s office has been received.  The report which covers all Town Buildings has been distributed to the Board members, department heads and the Chairman of the Capital Improvement Committee.  Mr. San Angelo will be adding the Caretaker’s house at Camp Kiwanee, if funds permit.  He requested that the Board and Department Heads review the plan and forward any questions or concerns.

ABC Contract:  Mr. San Angelo informed the Board that there was a typo in the ABC Contract with respect to the hauling costs.  The contract indicated $141.00 per month when in fact the correct negotiated price was $141.00 per haul. Mr. San Angelo wanted it the correction reflected in the Selectmen minutes.  

Mr. Soper asked if the Town can re-negotiate the terms of the contract for the hauling of the recyclables which are hauled free for the first two years. Mr. San Angelo indicated that the terms will be re-negotiated

The Voice – Mr. San Angelo indicated that he has received a request by Jim Armstrong to use the Town Hall Green, depending on the results of this evenings show, to broadcast The Voice so all citizens can come together to support Kristen Merlin.

MOTION by  Amico, second by Soper to authorize Jim Armstrong to utilize the Town Hall Green to broadcast The Voice on Monday and Tuesday, May 19th and 20th   Voted 3 – 0 .

Mr. San Angelo thanked Richard Flynn for his service over the past three years.  He worked hard for the town of Hanson.  The Board offered its appreciation.

III     NEW BUSINESS    
Hanson Rod & Gun club Youth Fishing Derby requesting permission to use Town Hall Green for Youth Fishing Derby on Sunday, June 8th from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

MOTION by Amico, second by Soper to approve the Hanson Rod & Gun Club Youth Fishing Derby on June 8th from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Voted 3 - 0

Rockland/Hanson Rotary requesting permission to use Town Hall Green for a Fishing Derby on Saturday, June 14th from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

MOTION by Amico, second by Soper to grant the Rockland Hanson Rotary permission to conduct a Fishing Derby on Saturday, June 14th.  Voted 3 – 0

MOTION by  Amico, second by Soper to approve the one day liquor licenses as presented.  Voted 3 – 0
        
VI      COMMITTEE REPORTS
        Monponsett Pond – None heard
        
School Building Committee – Mr. Amico indicate the committee met last night and the next meeting will be held on May 19th.  He noted that an interview with Jack McCarthy, the director from MSBA, is available on YouTube.  The interview was conducted by Bob Hayes and Mr. McCarthy answers many of the questions about the school building project as it relates to funding from the State.  

Activities Committee – Mr. San Angelo indicated there is a meeting going on currently.  The group is selling buttons to support next year’s event.  The event is growing.  Hanson Rod & Gun will be presenting an archery demonstration, there will be a dunk tank and moon walk.  Mr. Soper has donated hamburgers, a local dentist will have a table.  The police and fire groups will be on hand.    Several organizations a participating.
